As with all major organisations, finance has a critical role to play in the smooth-running of the South England Conference, as well as in the local church. The treasury department acts as steward of all the money contributed to the conference. Such funds are used to finance the important ministries of the conference, pay employees, and maintain church property. Annual financial statements of the conference are printed in the conference news-sheet, the Communicator and are publicly reviewed at conference sessions, which are held every four years.

Why did you decide to start working for the church?
I always wanted to work for the Church and in the 1980’s I started working for the Treasury Department. I have now been assistant to several different Treasurers in my time here and have now cut my time down to work part time in this department.
What would you say are the challenges of your job?
The challenge, I think everyone faces working for the Church, is getting everything done in the few hours we have in a day!
What are the highlights of your time as director of this Department?
I have been able to work with such a variety of people in this line of work, and at the end of the day I’m doing it all for God.

They work together to ensure that the reports are dealt with quickly and efficiently. Wederly also manages the monthly Payroll work.
Why did you decide to start working for the church?
My family has worked for several generations in the SDA environment. This job makes me a fourth generation worker! I was actually studying at Newbold College and was called to work in our Treasury Department, and I’m still here working for God.
What would you say are the challenges of your job?
I think its a challenge to make sure all the Tithe and Offering Reports are received on time, and then get them processed before they pile up and the next months reports come in.
What are the highlights of your time working in your position?
Everything is quite new to me at the moment, so I am enjoying the new experiences that this job provides.

Wederly
Why did you decide to start working for the church?
In 2005 I was given the chance to work at the SEC. At the time I believed it would be a good opportunity to develop my skills within a Christian environment. Since then I have realised how much this environment has contributed to my professional and personal development. I now look forward to a future in which I can continue to work with colleagues and friends who mutually appreciate the universal values and standards that the SDA Church represents.
What would you say are the challenges of your job?
The biggest challenge and privilege of my role is to be a good witness to those around me and to be a worthy ambassador for the SEC, the SDA Church family and ultimately God.
What are the highlights of your time working in your position?
The highlight of my role here is to honour and glorify God’s name by serving all those with whom I come into contact to the best of my abilities.
