The Ministerial Director's two main responsibilities are; providing pastoral support for the pastors, elders and lay preachers within the South England Conference. The department assists in the provision of resources for local programmes, such as equipment, seminar packages, new ideas and approaches, as well as training opportunities for churches.

Part of Emmanuel's job involves calling Pastors and giving them Pastoral support, and if needed, meeting with the ministers of the various areas. Included in this are his more personal visits to ministers and their families in their homes. This department ensures the entire well-being of our Ministers, as well as training, Emmanuel includes plans for physical rejuvenation into their activities for the Ministers, for example, day trips out of their usual settings.

As well as taking the Ministers out to tend for their physical needs, the Ministerial department plans to create opportunities to take them away on retreats for ministerial training programmes to also cater for their spiritual needs. As well as tending to our Ministers, Emmanuel aids the lay preachers within the church, organising elements such as a lay preaching course.

Within his role as Director of this department, Emmanuel also oversees Prayer Ministries, travelling around all the churches, helping to lift up the profile of prayer in the various areas of the South England Conference with seminars and prayer groups.

Emmanuel

Why did you decide to start working for the church?
I just sensed a call to Ministry, and this is the only place I saw myself working in after this realisation. My whole world centres around helping people in the church.

What would you say are the challenges of your job?
I think that my challenge is trying to give quality time to all the Ministers, being able to get to each of them. In the past, ministerial teams haven't been able to completely do this, so, now I would like to try to see how we can take it all further. A second challenge is trying to lift the morale of our ministers, many have said that this is a difficulty of their job and as we cater for them, we need to try and change this.

What are the highlights of your time as director of this Department?
I've got two offices; one is meeting with my pastors, and the other is handling Prayer Ministries. The highlight of Prayer Ministries, is spending quality time with members in prayer and seeing God working through that.

The highlight of working with Pastors, I think, is trying to meet their needs and help to affirm their call to ministry by working along with them. Being able to help them through some of the challenges they face in their ministry is a true blessing.
